Many pre-school and elementary school classrooms are loud and crowded. Also, toys are only returned to their proper place at the end of the day. This leaves the classroom in upheaval until home time. At Bright Horizon Montessori School, not only does our low student to teacher ratio contribute to a peaceful and orderly atmosphere, our tidying methods and procedures make for a pleasant classroom setting.
Children Building Courtesy and Respect
It starts with the teacher greeting each child with a handshake when they arrive, to bidding them farewell when they leave. The children at Bright Horizon Montessori School are respected as active, participating members of the class. When they arrive they choose a responsibility they must complete during the school day – this includes from dusting the number rods to setting the table for snack time. From the start to the end of the day, each student is encouraged to maintain the classroom setting.
Gaining Practical Life Skills
Independent children lead to independent thinking. At Bright Horizons Montessori School, the CASA children learn practical skills such as pouring drinks, folding laundry, tying bows and doing up buttons – this is all done using logical methods that simplify learning. The purpose of teaching practical life skills in the classroom is to help the child gain control in the coordination of their movement, as well as independence in society. The Practical Life component helps the child develop an orderly way of thinking.
